On June 5th, in the symposium of the Global Automotive Forum discussion, "New Energy Automobiles: Promoting a New Round of Growth", Su Ling, Deputy General Manager of Changan New Energy Automobile Division China, Xia Heng, Co-founder & President of  XPeng Motors China, Ye Lei, Professional Deputy Chief Engineer of New Energy Vehicles in CVTRI China, Wang Hongjun, Vice President of BYD Auto Engineering Research Department China, and Lei Hongjun, General Manager Assistant, Chief Engineer of Yangtse River Automobile Group Co., Ltd. China, exchanged their views on the above topics.

 

Su Ling: Sharing Transportation is the Next Important Growth Point of New Energy Vehicles

Su Ling points out that at present, the automobile industry has entered the era of 2.0, and sharing trips will be the next important growth point of new energy vehicles.

Su Ling believes that the new energy automobile industry pattern is reconstructing, and the core competitiveness of the industry is transforming.

"From the perspective of the evolution of the competitive pattern, the transformation of service content, the change of industrial participants, and the shift in competitive focus, the industrial pattern has undergone profound and drastic changes".

According to Su Ling, it is the core competitiveness of the future market to grasp the interface between personal users and travel users. The future products must strive to create the extreme experience of deep integration of new energy, intelligence, and network connection, and to build intelligent and living automobiles. The future industry’s duty is to gain the ability to build a value-sharing, integrated, and industrial platform.

For Chang’an, it launched its shangri-la plan last year, which calls for the complete cessation of fuel vehicles by 2025 and the electrification of the entire spectrum of products. Chang’an Technology Co., Ltd. was established in May this past year. Xia Heng: "AI Capability" is a New High Ground for the Development of New Energy Vehicles

According to Xia Heng, AI capability’s can transform functional cars into intelligent ones. He states, "To inject the AI capability into a car, at the beginning, is to upgrade the car to autonomous and intelligent networking capabilities".

 

Xia Heng says there are four main aspects of the independent research and development on the AI Car carrier: high performance chip plus independent innovation software development, massive Chinese scene big data, AI car's "six dimensional" perception, and system security design.

As for the first product of XPeng Motors, Xia Heng specifically mentions the full-scene automatic parking function of XPeng Motors under AI, including full scene parking recognition, automatic parking, key voice remote control, 40cm parking distance, parking memory, etc.

 

Ye Lei: Reduce Subsidy Reliance and Promote the Marketization of New Energy Vehicles

Ye Lei points out that the country is in a good place to subsidize new energy vehicles. Relevant data shows that by 2017, state financial subsidies had reached 79 billion yuan and the local subsidies has reached 50 billion yuan, which comes to a total of 129 billion yuan of subsidies.

With such a large scale of subsidies, Ye Lei believes that subsidies can stimulate products, technologies, and markets in the early stages of the new development of energy companies. When the industry reaches a mature stage, the companies should appropriately reduce their dependence on state financial subsidies. This independence can stimulate the vitality of the market and allow technologically advanced, superior products, as well as the reliable performance of companies, to survive. By doing so, the marketization of new energy vehicles can be promoted.

 

Wang Hongjun: The Trend of the New Energy Bus is Purely Electric, Lightweight, and Intelligent

Wang Hongjun states that for new energy buses, the pure electrification technology route will be the biggest trend in the four technical routes of gas buses, hydrogen fuel buses, hybrid buses, and pure electric buses.

Meanwhile, Wang Hongjun also stresses that lightweight vehicles allow energy consumption and power to fly together. It is also an important trend in the development of new energy buses.

"As usual, in terms of intelligent network connection, everyone’s focus of concern is on the buses. In fact, intelligent application has a good prospect in the field of passenger vehicles." Wang Hongjun says that intelligent public transportation can make traffic safer, more convenient, and less expensive. At the same time, the integrated vehicle system adopts an integrated design concept, which reduces the vehicle cost and provides a compact layout, improving the overall user experience.

 

Lei HongjunElectric Vehicles Will Inevitably Replace Fuel Vehicles

In Lei HongJun’s point of view, from rickshaws to carriages, carriages to steam cars, steam cars to diesel cars, diesel cars to electric cars, this is an inevitable trend in the development of transportation. Lei HongJun asserts, therefore, that in the future, electric vehicles will unavoidably replace fuel vehicles.

Lei HongJun says, "New energy vehicles are electric vehicles. As for whether to use half of electricity, a third of electricity, or hybrids, they are moving in the direction of electricity regardless."

Overall, the four guests agreed that electrification, intelligence, integration, and the light weight of vehicles are the trends in the development of new energy vehicles.
