James Chai – Secretary General of Global Automotive Forum organising committee

Dearest guests, and friends from the media, good afternoon!

With the support from our sponsors, the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government and the China Machinery Industry Federation, in addition to the support of our hosts, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade - Automotive Committee, the China Chamber of International Commerce Automotive Chamber, the Organizing Committee of China Chongqing International Auto Industry Fair, our co-organizer Automotive Observer, and lastly our organizer JFP Holdings, Ltd. We gladly announce that the 2017 Global Automotive Forum will officially open tomorrow at the Chongqing Yuelai International Conference Center. It’s this Forum’s 8th annual event, and this is the third time it will be held in Chongqing.

Recent years, the global auto demand is maturing with growth slowing in key global markets. How will the industry adapt to the problems and challenges in an era of slow or no growth? The traditional automotive industry is moving forward to electricity and intelligence, But the road to get to a fully electric auto market is full of barriers. How are we to make sure this transformation will succeed despite all the uncertainties we face? Therefore, this year’s forum focuses on the topic “Innovation, Reform and Transformation” and aims to encourage discussion on key issues and practical development strategies.

In general, this year the forum has the following five features:

First: self-established conference structure, focusing on the hot topics

This year’s forum has designed various sessions covering topics including: Industry Landscape and Strategies in a Maturing Market, Made in China 2025, Strategies for Profitable Growth in a Maturing Industry, Green Technologies and New Energy Vehicles, “The Belt and Road”, EV New Champions, Chinese Brands: Current Progress and Outlook, Future of Auto Dealerships, Next Generation Technology’s Impact on the Auto Industry, Auto Sales and Marketing: Strategies in an Era of Slower Growth, Auto Design and Styling: Innovation & Inspiration, Vision of Auto Industry in 2025: Opportunities, Challenges Ahead and the Way Forward. These topics directly concern both China’s automotive industry and global automotive companies.

We’ve created special programs for this year’s forum. For example, last month, “The Belt and Road” International Cooperation Summit Forum was successfully held in Beijing, to continue this important discussion at our forum, we have also invited the former General Manager of China Investment Corporation, Mr. Gao Xiqing, former Commercial Counsellor of Ministry of Commerce, Mr. Chen Lin to discuss with our participating entrepreneurs on how to promote the globalization of China’s auto industry with the help of “The Belt and Road” initiatives. Self-driving technology and connectivity technologies have dramatically changed the interactions between the car, the driver and the environment. At this forum, we have invited a dream team composed by senior managers from first-tier global auto suppliers, to discuss the impact of these new technologies on reshaping the industry.  More and more Internet companies are stepping into the auto industry and make internet concept cars, which brings fresh perspectives to the traditional market. Along with that, the EV new champions are quickly emerging. Therefore, we’ve also invited some leading EV companies’ mangers to our forum and share their insights on popular topics.

Fifth, Combining efforts with the Chongqing Auto Show

Apart from the main program, the press conference and workshops, the organizing committee also prepared a diverse variety of extracurricular activities such as VIP meetings, music salon etc.

This year’s forum will be especially enhanced by its interaction with the Chongqing Auto Show. The expo center is directly adjacent to the conference center, and this year A live broadcast room has set up for the media at the auto show for the first time. Parts supplier companies in the forum will also participate in the exhibition, through the new energy vehicle show. All of the participants in our forum will be able to visit the auto show with their badge.

Here, on behalf of the sponsors, organizers and co-organizer, I want to offer my deepest gratitude to all OEM representatives, media, staff and partners who support the Global Automotive Forum. We wish the 2017 (8th) Global Automotive Forum a great success!
